Bird's Eye Maple is not technically a distinct species of maple, but rather a figure that’s occasionally found in Sugar Maple (Acer Saccharum) trees. This beautiful figure is believed to be caused by unfavourable growing conditions; the tree starts numerous new buds to get more sunlight, but poor growing conditions mean new shoots are aborted, resulting in a number of tiny remaining knots.
