Kingwood (Dalbergia Cearensis) is also known as Violette. Its heartwood is a dark purplish or reddish brown with darker black streaks, whilst the sapwood is a pale yellow. It is an extremely dense timber and blunts tools relatively quickly. Its natural oiliness can make it difficult to glue satisfactorily, so we suggest you do a small test piece before committing yourself with this valuable veneer.
Kingwood is listed in CITES appendix II, along with all other members of the Dalbergia genus.
